Workshop Reading Sessions
- Have Ken Dahlin do a "free workshop" - except for
travel expenses. Naturally, Ken would want to demonstrate The Companion Folder, but he can also talk about increasing
student motivation. See his article in the April 1995 issue of the MENC
Journal, Teaching Music. The title of the article is "Double
Your Effectiveness". The article centers on the use of technology
to be more effective and motivate students. Ken has conducted workshops
for Montgomery County, MD and at the Maryland Music Educators Conference..
As a teacher for 33 years he maintained his own motivation by constantly
trying new ideas - he avoided "burn out"! Ken would have many of
ideas to share.
- For a reading session,
complete sets of the music have been arranged into notebooks so that a
participant can not only play a part on his or her principle instrument
but also thumb through all the parts.
- Ken can also demonstrate Sibelius notation software. He has chosen
to use Sibelius for his recent
arrangements. It would make sense to purchase Sibelius
from one who uses Sibelius!
- Ken
will drive to your location for only 30 cents per mile. For
long distances, over night accommodations would need to be arranged. If
too far to drive, air fare would need to be covered.
- The session On March 12,
2001, Ken assisted by his wife, Ann did a reading session for the
Philadelphia Public Schools.
A follow up letter from the music supervisor commented, “The
Companion Music Folder is an extremely valuable tool for the elementary
and middle school instrumental music teacher. The methods and materials address the MENC National
Standards of Music which we are advancing at the state and local
levels.” ……. “One of the teachers commented that it was the most valuable
and useful session that she had attended since she began teaching.” Click to
read letter. The session went
beyond the Companion Music Folder as innovated teaching ideas to motivate
students were also shared. Click to read the outline of the session.
